Michigan Is Home to Nearly 1 Million Polish Americans – Here’s How to Celebrate This Month

By Elizabeth Wienke, General Manager, American Polish Cultural Center

October is Polish American Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the culture, traditions, and incredible contributions of Polish Americans, especially here in Michigan, which is home to nearly one million people of Polish descent.

From the Upper Peninsula to Metro Detroit, Polish families have built communities filled with faith, hard work, and love for our heritage. This month is about honoring that legacy and continuing it together.

Elizabeth Wienke
General Manager, American Polish Cultural Center

As General Manager of the American Polish Cultural Center in Troy, I warmly invite everyone, whether you have Polish roots or simply enjoy good food, music, and community, to celebrate with us in meaningful ways:

  • Visit the American Polish Cultural Center
Stop by and experience the heart of Polish culture through our events, music, and warm hospitality.
  • Dine at Wawel Restaurant
Enjoy authentic Polish dishes like pierogi, kielbasa, and bigos, prepared with tradition and love. Bring your friends and family, it’s the perfect way to share a taste of Poland.
  • Join Our Events
From live music Fridays to cultural gatherings, there’s always something happening that connects people through Polish heritage.
  • Support and Get Involved
Become a member, attend an event, or share our mission with others. Every bit of support helps keep Polish culture thriving in Michigan.

This month—and all year long, let’s celebrate the pride, history, and spirit that Polish Americans bring to our communities.

Serdecznie zapraszamy! (We warmly welcome you!)

September 28, 2025 – Chopiniana

Chopiniana

It’s that special time of year again—our annual Chopiniana event is just around the corner! This year is particularly meaningful as we also celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the American Polish Cultural Society.

This musical event which pays tribute to Frederic Chopin’s genius and virtuoso piano performances was created in 1993 by the late Noreen Sinclair as a private event. Since 2012, it is a cultural event of the American Polish Cultural Society.

Bereaving our sudden loss of the Chair of Chopiniana, we are dedicating the 32nd Chopiniana to the late, beloved Jackie Kolowski. We look forward to celebrating with you.
