100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE “ARMED EFFORT OF AMERICAN POLONIA” BANQUET: Sunday, October 15, 2017

This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the “Armed Effort of American Polonia”, an unprecedented event in over four hundred years of documented Polish presence in North America. One hundred years ago, in 1917, over 20,000 Poles residing in the US and Canada, including 3,000 residents of Michigan, left their jobs, homes and families, and voluntarily enlisted into a Polish expeditionary force to participate in the Allied war effort in Europe. The commemorative ceremonies in Detroit will begin with a noon Mass at St. Josaphat’s church (I-75 and Canfield in Detroit) on October 15, 2017, which is the exact 100th anniversary of the farewell mass celebrated in 1917 for the first one hundred and fifty four Michigan volunteers to depart for the Niagara-on-the-Lake training camp. Immediately following the Mass, there will be a 100th Anniversary Banquet at The American-Polish Cultural Center in Troy, Michigan. For more information, please call 313-343-0660.
